Problem:
How might we solve all these problems with a Rates Manager redesign?
Previous state:
- Today, our customers face challenges in adjusting rates because there is no simple “set it and forget it” solution. Many even attempt to persuade owners not to change rates over a weekend due to the complexity of editing them.
- Our sales team avoids mentioning the Rates Manager because it is so difficult to explain all of the intricacies.
- Difficult to use.
- Too many customizations.
- Hard to sell customers.
- Painful to train users.
- Hard to use as a customer.
Research & demo:
At our annual RezFest conference in Las Vegas, my Product Manager, Development Manager, and I conducted 24 customer interviews over four days, facilitated a card-sorting exercise, and engaged attendees in a voting game using business cards.
Unsurprisingly, a redesigned rates manager emerged as the most requested feature.
Results:
By the time I left Vrbo and Escapia, the fully developed Rates Manager was still in progress. However, customers were already enthusiastic about the demos and prototypes we had shared, praising their potential impact.
